Questions about crossing the line
How far is Riverside from Fort Smith?
About 3 miles, or six minutes, from downtown Fort Smith. Riverside is in Arkoma, on the Oklahoma side of the state line.
Can an Arkansas resident move to a nursing home in Oklahoma?
Yes. Anyone can choose a nursing home across the state line. What changes is Medicaid, which is run by each state.
My parent is on Arkansas Medicaid. What happens if they move to Riverside?
In most cases Arkansas Medicaid does not pay for long-term care in an Oklahoma nursing home. Your parent would apply for Oklahoma Medicaid (SoonerCare) through Oklahoma Human Services, which decides eligibility. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority explains how to apply. Call our Business Office Manager at (918) 875-3107 before the move so we can help with the timing.
Does Medicare work the same in Oklahoma?
Yes. Original Medicare is a federal program, so it works the same on both sides of the state line. Medicare Advantage plans have their own networks, so call us with the plan name and we’ll check.
Check us yourself. Every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home has a public record. Look up our ratings, staffing and inspection results before you decide.
